How to Export a CSV Using a Comma Delimiter in Excel

To make Excel save CSV files using a comma as the default delimiter, you can change the regional settings in Windows 11. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open Control Panel by pressing Win + R, type Control Panel, and press Enter.
  2. Under Clock and Region, click Change date, time, or number formats.
  3. Click the Additional settings... button.

  4. Change the List separator to a comma (,), then click OK.

  5. Close and reopen Excel for the changes to take effect.
  6. Try saving the Excel file as CSV and check the result using a text editor such as Notepad.

  1. Open Excel and go to File > Options.
  2. In the Excel Options dialog box, select Advanced.

  3. Under the Editing options section, uncheck Use system separators.
  4. Set the Decimal separator to a dot (.) and the Thousands separator to a comma (,).
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Save as CSV (Comma delimited)

  1. Open the Excel file you want to save.
  2. Go to File > Save As.
  3. Choose a location to save the file.
  4. In the Save as type dropdown, select CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv).
  5. Click Save.

Verify the CSV File

Open the saved CSV file using Notepad or another text editor to ensure the values are separated by commas.
